Proofreading is the final quality check performed after editing and layout.
Proofreading is:-
- Checking for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistency
- Ensuring formatting, layout, page numbers and headings are correct
- Comparing the final text against earlier versions, ensuring nothing has been lost or introduced
- Making sure the document is ready for publication
Copyediting is the stage where you check content, structure, clarity, and style.
Copyediting may involve:-
- Improving the flow, logic, and readability of the document
- Ensuring the text meets its purpose and audience needs
- Adjusting tone, structure and coherence
- Correcting language issues at a deeper level than proofreading
- Applying the client's style or professional standards
- Happens before proofreading
Copyediting can include several levels, including developmental, structural, and line editing.
